A police helicopter has busted three young blokes who were allegedly sitting on a rooftop having an illegal sesh.

The Queensland PolAir team used night vision to catch the trio, who were accused of 'sipping cold drinks' on the roof of a building on the Gold Coast.

They were seemingly enjoying their late night boozing session at Palm Beach until a loud voice came from a megaphone from above.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, an officer onboard a police helicopter yelled: "This is the police, this is the police. To the three people sitting on the building rooftop. Yes, we can see you - the one with the hoodie in the middle with your cold drinks.

"The building is surrounded by police, we need you to return to the ground floor, return to the bottom immediately please. Put your hand out to your right side so I know you understand."

Night vision footage shows the three people, aged 19 and 20, crouched on the rooftop closely together, before they're joined by officers on foot.

They've been charged with trespassing and drug possession offences.

The trio was also hit with individual, on-the-spot fines of $1,334 each. That's gotta hoirt.

Gold Coast District Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said this should be used as a warning to other people who want to sneak out at night and flout the social distancing laws in place.

He said: "This is a textbook example of a breach where there has been a total and blatant disregard for not only the law, but also the direction of the chief health officer's directions."

Police have been warning people that they are doubling down on efforts to catch those breaking the rules.

Victorian authorities were particularly dismayed at parents in Melbourne after 16 were fined for attending an eight-year-old's birthday party.

A concerned local dobbed in their neighbour in Beaumaris, in Melbourne's south-east over the weekend after noticing the guests arrive.

Channel 9 aired footage of children and parents gathered together, clearly in contravention of social distancing laws and advice to keep more than 1.5 metres distance from others.

Sixteen people were fined when police rocked up to the property.

Each person who was fined will have to cough up $1,652 each, meaning that birthday party has cost people more than $26,000.

No excuse has been given as to why all these people decided to break rank with everyone else to allow an eight-year-old to celebrate their birthday.
