Thai King Breaks Coronavirus Lockdown To Travel 12,000 Miles For Party

The king of Thailand broke lockdown rules to travel 12,000 miles for a lavish party.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn has been staying at a luxury hotel in Bavaria, Germany, with his 20 girlfriends, but last week took a private jet and flew to Bangkok, where he enjoyed a huge banquet.

According to reports, after leaving his mountain hideaway, the Thai leader stopped off in Zurich, Switzerland, to pick up his wife Queen Suthida, who has been staying there while she self-isolates.

He then made his way to the Thai capital, where he was met by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and the head of the Thai armed forces Apirat Kongsompong.

Following the party, King Maha Vajiralongkorn hopped back on his plane, dropping his wife back in Switzerland, before heading back to the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl, which he has taken over during the crisis.

All in the space of just 24 hours.

However, despite having broken lockdown, King Maha Vajiralongkorn seemed to feel no guilt.

He said: "This pandemic is not the fault of anybody.

"The government must solve the problem by understanding its causes.

"It is necessary to establish a system and communicate it to the people and to understand it well."

But the Thai king isn't the only one who has been caught ignoring the lockdown rules.

A man living in Coventry was stopped by police after defying the rules to drive 112 miles to pick up a £15 eBay order, then travelling back home with his wife in the boot for the rest of the journey.

The driver was stopped by the North West Motorway Police after he made the journey to Salford, Greater Manchester, to pick up some windows he'd bought online.

This is despite the UK currently being subject to government restrictions that mean everyone must avoid all unnecessary travel to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Once the driver arrived in Salford, he realised that he couldn't fit both his windows and his wife in the car, so she had to get in the boot for the drive home.

They were then stopped on the M6 in Cheshire as they drove back, at which point the police discovered the woman hiding in the boot of the car.

The driver received a Traffic Offence Report.
