Thirty people have been injured after the floor collapsed during a party in an apartment clubhouse in South Carolina.

A massive piece of the floor fell through and ended up in the building's basement at the Woodlands of Clemson apartment complex.

Tal Slann, property management president at Woodland's, told CNN that the floor came through as dozens of party goers danced 'in unison'.

In an email, he said: "As you all know there was a party in the clubhouse last night. This party resulted in a collapse of the floor structure in front of the fireplace at the clubhouse. The Clubhouse and pool area is OFF LIMITS to all.

"The clubhouse will be inspected by structural engineers as soon as possible. From there, the homeowner's association will determine how to rebuild the clubhouse to make it safe for all residents. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured and we apologise for any inconvenience."

Police have said no one was trapped in the collapse, but it's not yet clear if anyone has life-threatening injuries.

Shocking videos show the floor falling through and people dropping through, as well as the distressing aftermath where people can be heard crying out in pain.

Raven Guerra, 20, who was at the party at the time, told GMA: "By the time I had put one foot out the door, I felt that something was weird and that's when everyone just collapsed and the guy behind me disappeared.

"Everyone was on the floor and people were screaming and there was wood sticking up from the floorboards.

"Turning around and seeing a bunch of people who used to be on the second floor now on the basement was really surreal and people were crying. It was a lot to take in."

Larissa Stone, a sophomore at Clemson, told the Anderson Independent Mail: "Everyone was jumping. The beat was about to drop and then the whole floor collapsed.

"Everyone was trying to climb out. People were under other people. People were bleeding. I had blood on my sneakers."

The apartment complex is situated three miles from Clemson University and, according to Tal Slann, the room involved in the incident is in a common area, shared by residents and was being used for a private party at the time.
