US President Donald Trump has been holding daily coronavirus press briefings to keep everyone informed about the pandemic. Today, he was asked something a little off topic.

The leader is usually hit with tough, hard-hitting questions about America's response to the pandemic, however, a reporter for the New York Post broke ranks with his colleagues and asked something about another matter that has captivated the planet.

That topic is Joe Exotic.

The gun-toting polygamist is the star of the Netflix documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.

He's also serving a 22-year sentence for organising an attempted hit on his arch rival Carole Baskin as well as 17 federal charges of animal abuse.

New York Post White House correspondent Steven Nelson wanted to see what Trump's thoughts were on the topic.

Mr Nelson was encouraged to ask the question after the President's son, Donald Trump Jr, spoke about the idea of pardoning Exotic.

Speaking to SiriusXM, Don Jr said: "Now, I don't even know exactly what he was charged with...I watched the show, but it was like, I don't know exactly what he was guilty of or wasn't.

"It doesn't seem like he was totally innocent of anything. But when they're saying, 'We're putting this guy away for 30 years', I'm saying that seems sort of aggressive."

Enter Steven Nelson at the White House press briefing, who asked the President if he had heard of his son's comments and whether he would consider a pardon.

Trump replied: "Which son? It must be Don. I had a feeling it was Don."

The President added that he 'knew nothing about' Exotic and asked what he did to be put away for such a long time. After a bit of back and forth with Mr Nelson and another reporter, Mr Trump said he would 'look into it' - referring to the pardon.

It's hard to believe Joe Exotic ever getting a pardon but stranger things have happened in America.
