Here to infuriate the world once more is Martina Big - the former glamour model who 'identifies as black' following a series of tanning injections.

Despite receiving severe backlash for her claims, the 30-year-old this week made the bold statement that she is empowering black women with her own appearance.

Last month, Martina - who has also had a number of operations to give her 30S breasts - revealed her plans of moving to Africa to be with 'her people'.

After spending seven weeks in Kenya, German-born Martina spoke to the Daily Star and says she's been asked by village elders to teach girls to love the colour of their skin.

In her account, the controversial figure who recently had her name changed to Malaika Kubwa, explained why she decided to get the injections.

She said: "I talked to a doctor and told him I had problems getting a tan and he said he knew a team of doctors who were testing a new medicine against skin cancer.

"When I talked to them they told me that if I was to get darker skin, I would be better protected against skin cancer.

"For a long time I liked girls with a summer tan and a lot of celebrities with a deep summer tan, and then when I saw for me this medicine was really working, very well, it was really fascinating.

"I only had three injections two years ago in January and have had no further treatments (since then) and I'm really African dark."

Speaking about her change in appearance, she added: "You know the term 'black power? Well, I'm really proud that I've changed so much.

"It makes you [feel] stronger and I love going to hot places now, like Arizona and Africa, because when I go to those places I'm mostly better protected against the sun than the people who live there.

"I've changed my eyebrow, the eye colour, the hair. In the past I was blonde but now I've got African, really curly and thick black hair.

Martina Big now identifies as a black woman.

"For me, not only has my skin and my look changed, but also my inner feelings."

When asked whether she thinks she's doing her bit to empower black women, Martina replied:
"Yeah! And also a lot of people have invited me to come to their town and said 'I have read about you, you must come to our village and teach our girls that black is beautiful, show us that black is beautiful'."

Cue the backlash. Earlier this year when Martina appeared on This Morning to tell hosts Holly Willoughby and John Barrowman she had managed to 'change race' thanks to the procedures, many viewers took to Twitter to share their anger over her statements.

One tweeted: "Martina Big infuriates me. As a white woman, she's had more privilege in her years as a white woman than any black woman will ever get in their lifetime."

Another commented: "Martina Big really annoys me... She wants to be a 'black woman'... She never will be, regardless of her skin colour it's just black face."
