Emergency services are tending to a partial mine collapse in Tasmania over reports a worker has been trapped.

The person had made a 20-minute descent underground overnight when a section of earth collapsed at the Henty Gold Mine south west of Launceston.

His colleagues noticed the earth had shifted and ran up to surface level to raise the alarm.

Once the area has been declared safe, rescue workers will attempt to go underground and pull the worker to safety.

Work Safe Tasmania and the Mines Inspector have been notified.
