On 7 February, he wrote: "You were my best friend.

"You saved enough energy to give me a few seconds of excitement but afterwards couldn’t open your eyes: seeing you in that way, knowing how full of life you always had been (although a bit moany - like me) was horrible, I didn’t want to believe it but I knew you weren’t coming home.

You had such a gorgeous soul, so loving to anyone who needed it.

"You were with me through the darkest periods of my life and I can’t help but think you were an angel on earth, you got me here, saw me with my son and said bye."

He added: "All of the treatment had quickly shown to be working but the day after I saw you, you refused to get up.

"Last night they called me while they were trying to resuscitate you, but I know you’d already made your decision.

"Enjoy the freedom now mate; my dreams are always an open door for you to say hello should you fancy it…

"You were loved by so many mate; I didn’t lose a pet, I lost a best friend and he wouldn’t want me to be as broken as I am, but I am mate; loving you hurts so much at the moment.

"Thank you for everything x."

Three days ago (4 February), the rapper uploaded a photo showing the poor pet in a very sad state.

Professor Green added: "My most loyal companion, throughout everyone and everything you’ve always been there, and right now I feel absolutely helpless.

"F*** you, cancer."

The tributes have since been pouring in.

One user wrote: "Thinking of you @professorgreen he was an absolute legend and so loving to me when I came over."

Another added: "My deepest condolences brother."

A third commented: "Sending you so so much love."

Another wrote: "So sorry for your loss mate."
