Professor Green has shared the heartbreaking news that his dog has died from cancer.

The rapper's 'best friend' was diagnosed with lymphoma and today the 38-year-old posted a photo of him cuddling his pet on the sofa along with a heartfelt caption.

On 7 February, he wrote: "You were my best friend.

"You saved enough energy to give me a few seconds of excitement but afterwards couldn’t open your eyes: seeing you in that way, knowing how full of life you always had been (although a bit moany - like me) was horrible, I didn’t want to believe it but I knew you weren’t coming home.

You had such a gorgeous soul, so loving to anyone who needed it.

"You were with me through the darkest periods of my life and I can’t help but think you were an angel on earth, you got me here, saw me with my son and said bye."

He added: "All of the treatment had quickly shown to be working but the day after I saw you, you refused to get up.

"Last night they called me while they were trying to resuscitate you, but I know you’d already made your decision.

"Enjoy the freedom now mate; my dreams are always an open door for you to say hello should you fancy it…

"You were loved by so many mate; I didn’t lose a pet, I lost a best friend and he wouldn’t want me to be as broken as I am, but I am mate; loving you hurts so much at the moment.

"Thank you for everything x."
