Shakira Releases Statement After Fans Shared Concern About Seeing Her In Ambulance

She's thanked for their support in a message on social media

Shakira has released a statement to reassure fans she is OK after she was seen in an ambulance in Spain.

Posting on Twitter, the 45-year-old pop star said it was actually her father who had needed the ambulance following a fall, but said he is now recovering in hospital.

Shakira – whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll – wrote: “Guys, I’m getting a lot of messages of concern that I was seen in an ambulance in Barcelona recently.

"I just wanted to let you know that these photos are from last weekend (the 28th), when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now.

“Please do send all your best wishes his way and thank you all as always for all your love and support.”

Alongside the post, she shared a photo of her kissing her dad on the cheek – in the snap, he's sporting a large white dressing above his right eye and appears to have quite a lot of bruising to his face.

The post was quickly flooded with well-wishes and messages of support for her dad.

Shakira’s latest post comes just hours after she announced she was splitting from footballer Gerard Piqué after 11 years together.

Shakira and Piqué, 35, got together in 2010 and have two children together Milan and Sasha – they never married.

In a statement through her agency, Shakira said: "We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.

"Thank you for your understanding."

As of yet, neither Shakira nor Piqué have revealed any details behind the split.

Fans of the popstar believe she may have hinted at relationship problems in her latest song.

The singer teamed up with Puerto Rican singer and rapper Rauw Alejandro for a track called Te Felicito

The song includes the lyrics: [Translation] "To complete you, I broke into pieces/ They warned me, but I didn’t listen/ I realised that your love is false/ It was the final drop that tipped over the glass."

Shakira then sings about an apology that 'seems sincere' but that she knows is a 'lie'.

The lyrics then continue: "I congratulate you, how well you act, of that I have no doubt/ Your script continues. That show suits you well.”
