Jerome Boateng has been given indefinite leave by Bayern Munich in the wake of the death of ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt.

Lenhardt, 25, was found dead earlier this week, with a Berlin police spokesperson telling LADbible in a statement: "Our emergency services were alerted to a flat in Charlottenburg last night [9 February] at around 8.30pm on suspicion of suicide. They found a lifeless person in the flat. There are no indications of a violent crime."

Now Bayern boss Hansi Flick has confirmed Boateng, 32, will be missing Bayern's Club World Cup final against Tigres today, saying the defender is on leave 'until further notice'.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Flick said: "The news from Berlin hurt us very much.

"Jerome asked me to let him travel back to Germany, and we have granted him permission to do so.

"He will not be available to us until further notice."

Born in Poland, Lenhardt made a name for herself on Germany's Next Top Model in 2012.

The tragic news of her death came just a week after Boateng announced their split, saying on Instagram: "As is known from the media, I ended the relationship with Kasia Lenhardt.

"We will go our separate ways from now on. That is regrettable, but for my family and for me it is the only right one."

He continued: "I had to take this step and draw a line. I apologise to everyone I've hurt especially with my ex-girlfriend Rebecca and our children.

"I am disappointed in myself too. A man has to take responsibility and act in the interests of his family and I'm doing it now.

"I wish Kasia all the best. Jerome Boateng."

Following the confirmation of Lenhardt's death, fellow model and friend Sara Kulka paid tribute to her on Instagram

She said: "Rest in peace. You wonderful person, I miss you and would have loved to say goodbye.

"I hope you find your peace now and I hope the truth comes out now, I know how much you wished it would.

"I will never forget you, I don't know anyone who could laugh like you. I send a lot of strength to the family."
