Every time Nick Krygios steps onto a tennis court, crowds are waiting for him to do something controversial. Whether it's shouting at the ref, storming off or embarrassing his opponent with a cheeky underhand serve, he rarely disappoints.

But during a match today, one spectator got involved in the action when she gave the Australian athlete some pointers on his serve.

The 24-year-old was up against Norbert Gombos in the quarter-final of the Washington Open when he was heard asking one fan: "Where do you want me to go with this serve?"

And the response seems to have done the trick, as he smashed the ball over the net for an ace, winning the match 6-3, 6-3.

After claiming the victory, he ran over to the woman and gave her a big hug.

Following the match, Krygios said he was happy with how he played and thanked the fans for staying out late to watch his match.

"I'm just super happy that all the work I'm doing off the court is translating onto the court," he said.

"Four days in a row, four matches competing at my highest level; I'm pretty happy with it, honestly.

"The crowd's been amazing. I love playing night matches here.

"The crowd's hanging around for late night matches and getting into it, and I'm just trying to give them fun tennis to watch, and also trying to get some wins as well."

The Australian star embraced the fan after winning the match.

Safe to say the tennis star fared much better here than he did last month at the Italian Open, when he walked off during a match with Norwegian Casper Ruud. The disgruntled player chucked a chair onto the court in Rome, kicked a water bottle, threw his racket on the ground and mouthed off against the umpire.

During his tirade against the umpire, the tennis star yelled: "I am giving 100 percent to deal with f***ing idiots like him, I'm done. I'm f***ing done. I'm f***ing done with it. I don't give a f***."

He eventually chucked his bag over his shoulder and sauntered off the court. Officials defaulted the match and handed the win to Ruud.

Following the scenes on court, Kyrgios wrote on Instagram: "Very eventful day to say to the least. Emotions got the better of me and I just wanted to say that the atmosphere was crazy out there today, just super unfortunate that it had to end in a default. Sorry Roma, see you again, maybe."
