World famous commentator and WWE legend, Jim Ross, sustained a nasty injury last night - but it had nothing to do with the ring.

Taking to Twitter this morning (November 17) to share a picture of his broken face, Jim wrote: "Took a bad bump last night. The concrete went over."

Yikes! Although the injuries look very sore, he's been a brave sport and added, "Still going to @OU_Football tonight. #BoomerSooner".

Jim was referring to Oklahoma University's football game this evening where the Sooners are scheduled to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. What a trooper.

Many of you will know Jim as WWE's most famous announcer. His return to the pro-wrestling institute was announced last year during the ceremony at the WWE Hall of Fame, which saw DDP, Beth Phoenix, The Rock 'n' Roll Express and Teddy Long among the class of '17.

The 65-year-old was released from the WWE in 2013 and for the following four years he worked at independent wrestling events.

Since his return, JR now works for the company on a part time basis, last appearing on the Greatest Royal Rumble kick-off show.

It's not been the smoothest of years for JR, as he's been dealing with a personal tragedy after his wife died in a car crash last year. According to TMZ, Jan was riding her Vespa home from their local Oklahoma gym when a vehicle hit her from behind.

Without a helmet for protection, Jan suffered brain damage and multiple skull fractures, and sadly passed from her injuries.

JR announced his wife's passing on Twitter, writing: "A Priest gave my wife Jan her last rites tonight. My little Angel is gone."

A flood of tributes were paid to Jan and condolences to Jim, including from WWE alumni Beth Phoenix, Bruce Prichard, Eric Bischoff, Shannon Moore and Ric Flair.

Fans are always ready to offer up their love and support to JR, who has become a pop culture icon in his own right.

Speaking about his recent tumble a few fans had some pretty comical comments to make about the incident.

But, mainly, fans were pretty supportive of JR, one fan declared, "OH NO! Get well soon, JR!" while another said, "Oh Man.. Take Care Mr Ross and Heal Up Soon.. We Need you around for a long long time." Damn straight. Meanwhile, another commented: "Hope you're ok, Jim! Hang in there."

We're backing that by saying get well soon JR. Thoughts go out to that concrete.
