A young boxer has died after suffering a head injury in his first fight.

22-year-old Kuba Moczyk fell into a coma after being knocked out and was put on a life support machine after a match on Saturday night.

His trainer Scott Osinski told the Press Association that Kuba was winning the fight in the first two rounds before being hit with the fatal punch in the third. He was rushed into hospital but never regained conscious.

Scott said: "It was such a shock. Kuba was all smiles in between the rounds and enjoying himself. But it was just a freak blow of nature."

His devastated twin sister Magdalena said: "Kuba may have wanted to be a boxer - but he's just the kindest and gentlest man. We are very close. Kuba had been training for a long time and it was his dream. But he is not the kind of person to want to hurt anybody.

"All he wanted to do was show what he could do and make his team proud."

Kuba had spent four months training before the match.

A spokesperson from James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, where Kuba died, told the BBC that his family were at the bedside when he passed away and that some of his organs had been donated.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council told the BBC they will be sending environmental health officers out to investigate as health and safety concerns had been raised. Norfolk Police will not be investigating the death.
