Giving up the hustle and bustle of urban living to escape to the tranquility of island life is a thought that has occurred to most city dwellers we are sure, although we suspect more often than not they are dreaming of an island in the Caribbean and not say, the island of Arranmore off the coast of Donegal.

Well perhaps it's time those city slickers open their minds to the possibilities that could await them on Arranmore as a new campaign which calls on US residents to consider relocating to the picturesque island suggests.

The crux of the campaign is an open letter to those living in the States which highlights all the island has to offer, particularly following the recent installation of a new 'digital hub' that has increased internet speeds to equal those of any metropolitan city.

"Your commute, no matter where you are, will only ever be five minutes," the letter reads. "You'll have the best diving in Ireland on your doorstep and seafood to rival the tastiest New England chowder.

"There are fewer people here than would fit in a couple of Amtrak carriages, but enough musicians and good Irish whiskey to keep the party going well into the night."

"The digital hub means people working for tech companies like mine can now work on Arranmore," says Neil Gallagher, CEO of tech company Caped Koala Studios. As an Arranmore native, Gallagher knows the island better than anyone.

"The set-up is as good as any city in the world, but the view is so much better."

The campaign is supported by a video by Three Ireland which facilitated the digitisation of the island. "This project could actually be the saving of the island," a spokesperson can be heard saying in the video which you can watch in full above.
