Tom Holland has confirmed that he'll be back in the famous blue and red lycra as Spider-Man - the actor has revealed that filming on the third instalment from Marvel's most recognisable superhero will be starting in the summer.

Talking to The Inquirer, Holland didn't give too much away, but crucially he did say: "I'm super happy about it. We will be shooting Spider-Man 3 in July in Atlanta."

That's enough to get us excited and means that fans won't necessarily have long to wait for the continuation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

It's particularly pleasing that we can look forward to a third film, given that at one stage its prospects looked dicey. In August last year it was reported that negotiations between Marvel and Sony (who owned the character's film rights) had broken down, which meant Spider-Man was out of the MCU.

Thankfully a month later a new deal was agreed - now it would appear it's full steam ahead for the much-anticipated sequel.

Holland also described the story of the new film as 'absolutely insane' and confirmed co-star Zendaya will be returning as MJ.

The 23 year-old didn't really shed much light on what else was going on. The relationship between Peter and MJ? Couldn't say. Will he be turning up in other Marvel movies? Doesn't know what they want him to do. Oh well.

One thing he did open up about was how he'd handled being recognised as the new face of Spider-Man - tipping his cap to his Onward co-star Chris Pratt in the process.

"Since I got cast as Spider-Man, he's been like a big brother to me," said Holland.

"He's always on the other end of the phone should I need to ask him advice about dealing with this concept of being famous and people feeling like they own a little piece of you."

He also praised Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. as positive influences as he continues his ascent up the Hollywood ladder.

The next Spidey movie is going to have a tough act to follow, with the previous outing Spider-Man: Far From Home being the first film in history to gross over $1 billion, as well as gaining critical plaudits for the humour of the script and special effects in the film. Holland, too, came in for praise for his performance.
