An angry resident has warned motorists to stop parking on a street corner with by painting the words 'keap claer' and 'keep kleere plz' on the road. Well, the thought was there.

The unnamed person whipped out the paint and brushes to daub a warning onto the corner of Windermere Road and Rockliffe Road in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough to discourage selfish drivers from parking there.

The DIY road signs have been slammed by one councillor who said they were 'disrespectful' and 'inappropriate'.

According to the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough Council said the bend was due to be freshly painted with double yellow lines in the next few weeks, however the plans have been delayed because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Deputy mayor Antony High told the Northern Echo the council would be taking legal action if they found the culprit who painted the markings.

He said: "It is utterly disrespectful to our town. If we find who this person is, we will be taking legal action.

"We still need to function as a council and there are certain things we just cannot accept. People just taking it on themselves to paint lines is something we will challenge.

"It's inappropriate, it's a waste of resources to fix it and the finances are tight enough without having to address anti-social behaviour."

He went on to add that he appreciates people are getting annoyed about cars parking on the corner, but that it needed to be addressed via the proper channels.

He added: "It's not acceptable behaviour. I know it's not the biggest issue at the moment, but we still need to function, and we still need to keep Middlesbrough clean and safe."

Councillor Philippa Storey told the newspaper she placed a request to get double yellow lines painted there back in October and said the corner can cause access issues for emergency vehicles.

She said: "That's why I can understand the frustration because it is terrible.

"You do get some idiots who do park there - and regular cases of bin lorries not being able to get in."

Adding: "It's been an ongoing war against silly drivers - and we were just about to get double yellow lines. It's frustrating for everybody."
