Home Office Says Expenses Were For PPE Not Priti Patel's Eyebrows

Home Office Says Expenses Were For PPE Not Priti Patel's Eyebrows

The 'strange' Home Office expenses were revealed last week

The Home Office has responded to claims about Priti Patel's 'strange' expenses spending, including around £77,000 to a company called 'Beautiful Brows' and £30,000 to 'Global Beauty Products Limited'.

Apparently, Patel was buying PPE from Beautiful Brows, rather than spending an exorbitant amount of cash on her personal appearance.

The initial news was broken by The Byline Times - who were the ones to describe them as 'strange' - last week and shows a whole host of expenses that definitely ask more questions than they answer.

Amongst the claims are more than £2,000 at what appears to be an Albanian electronics store, more than £1,000 at a garden centre, £3,774.29 at a restaurant that no-one could actually find, and more than £5,000 in Primark.

That must be enough to buy most of the things that you could find in Primark, to be fair.

Now, the Home Office has moved to attempt to add clarity to some of the spending, but not before loads of people had shared memes and tweets about why they appeared to have spent more than £100,000 on beauty products and eyebrow maintenance.

On Friday night, they tweeted: "It is wrong to claim the Home Office expenses that have been circulated today are the Home Secretary's,

"They are department wide ad for vital equipment like PPE.

"It is completely false to say the Home Office has spent money on beauty products, it was PPE."

In a later - and much more bullish tweet - they added: "We make no apology for buying PPE to keep our staff safe during a pandemic."

They also moved to clarify that the money spent in Primark was allegedly to buy clothes for asylum seekers 'who would have not had appropriate clothing when arriving in the UK'.

The tweet continued: "We are committed to delivering the best value for money for the British taxpayer, making sure every pound is spent in the most effective way."

Despite that, the memes and jokes at Patel's expense - sorry - have continued to flow in.

One person - amongst thousands, to be fair - tweeted: "PPE stands for Priti Patel's Eyebrows."

Another said: "Priti Patel can spend £77k of tax payers money on eyebrows and all the media do is talk about flags."

A third wrote: "Waiting for Keir Starmer to release a statement saying he thinks Priti Patel's eyebrows look very nice actually."
