A man accused of exposing himself in a Subway restaurant had a Kinder egg full of drugs up his bum, a court heard.

John Goddard was arrested on suspicion of being drunk, and causing disturbances at Botanic Avenue, Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Wednesday night (10 March).

He appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court to face charges of indecent behaviour, breach of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO), possession of Class B drugs and assault on police.

Under his ASBO, the 48-year-old is prohibited from drinking in public and officers said he was seen with his penis exposed in Subway.

Cannabis was found inside the Kinder egg.

Cannabis was found on Goddard while in custody and he was then taken for an X-ray, with officers suspecting he had more drugs hidden up his rectum.

According to The Belfast News Letter, an officer told the court on Thursday: "When he returned from hospital he was observed by police to remove a Kinder egg from his backside and place it in his mouth.

"It was seized following a struggle (where) the defendant kicked a constable to the mouth.

"Inside the Kinder egg capsule more cannabis was found."

Defence barrister Michael Boyd sought bail for his client, describing it as a 'depressing situation'.

He said: "He's an inveterate alcoholic and street drinker.

"He is asking the court to give him one final chance to observe the conditions of the ASBO.

"It's a very sad, depressing situation."

However, Deputy District Judge Liam McStay rejected this plea for a final chance.

He said: "His offending behaviour is offensive to the public and presents considerable risk to the public."

Goddard was remanded in custody and will appear in court again via video link in four weeks.

He is not the first person to stash a Kinder egg filled with drugs up his bum, though.

In 2018, Dominic Lundon was caught smuggling 50 MDMA tablets into Park Life Festival at Heaton Park, Manchester.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Judge Michael Leeming said: "You are a young man of immense talent, highly intelligent and well thought of by those who know you well.

"This was a series of poor decisions made by you over a period of a few weeks. This is not isolated but planned offending, as those texts plainly demonstrate.

"Your family are in complete shock that you behaved in this particular way. You have only got yourself to blame for putting yourself in this position."

Lundon pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing MDMA with intent to supply and was sentenced to two years and seven months behind bars.
