Heartstopping moment daredevil jumps off 500ft skyscraper in Birmingham triggering emergency response

Hope you're not afraid of heights

Watch the shocking moment a man filmed himself leaping off the side of a 500ft skyscraper before being confronted by police.

For most of us, leaping off the side of a building into the great unknown is something which is reserved solely for nightmares or viewed in action films.

However, for one adventurous Brit, flying from the side of a building is just a typical weekday hobby.

Shared by the TikTok account, @‌letsmakestupiddecisions, the man, who did not wish to be named, filmed himself and a friend jumping off the side of the 509ft One Eastside' tower block in Birmingham last month.

Moments before the daring jump, our unnamed daredevil could be seen walking alongside the very edge of the building, which is enough to make most of us feel a little unsteady in the legs, before making the death defying leap of faith.

After analysing the best route down, he can be heard shouting 'see you down there' to his friend before counting to three and leaping into the night without a second of hesitation.

The wind can be heard rippling through the camera speakers as the man is in free fall towards the ground before he calmly activates his parachute and glides to a stop in the middle of the road.

Watch the jaw-dropping moment below:

Who knew you could get the sinking feeling in your stomach from just watching a person jump from a great height?

The man then floats to the ground and greets baffled pedestrians as though flying into a city from the middle of nowhere is the most normal thing in the world before apologising for nearly taking another person out with his parachute.

Unsurprisingly, the police were less than impressed with the stunt and were on the scene within mere seconds and ready to interrogate our daredevil.

"Where did you come from," the baffled officer questions, to which the man breezily responds: "A plane just dropped me off...out of nowhere, it just flew over there."

The officers didn't appear to be convinced by the man's 'dog ate my homework' level of excuse, but didn't really have any evidence to prove otherwise.

So it would look like our anonymous caped crusader will live to fly another day.

Reflecting on the jump, the adrenaline junkie said: "This was more exciting than most other jumps, due to the additional factors involved such as the difficult access, a security guard on-site and the police presence.

"The police were quite heavy handed and keen to cuff and arrest before fully understanding the situation."

Explaining that he began doing the risky jumps after returning from military service, the man said that base jumping - which involves leaping from a fixed height with a parachute has been a way to chase the 'adrenaline bug'.

"Nothing compares to that feeling of accomplishment, the meticulous planning, packing, jump and extraction, in most cases un-detected," he added.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a number of people on a building site in Birmingham city centre just before 9pm on Friday.

"A number of people were spoken to but there were no reports of criminal offences."
