Police Officer Holds Car With His Bare Hands To Stop It Falling Off Motorway

Thankfully the bloke in the flipped lorry survived the crash and only suffered non-life-threatening injuries...

It's a standard scene in superhero movies these days where a person or a vehicle is hurtling towards the edge of a cliff or building and the protagonist saves the day at the last second and prevents death and destruction.

That's nice and all when you've got superpowers, but it appears that that type of heroism isn't confined to just the movies.

PC Martin Willis was first on the scene of a pretty serious crash on the A1, where a driver had lost control of his lorry, which flipped and nearly rolled down an embankment onto the road below.

Also known as Motorway Martin, the cop jumped out of his car and once he realised the driver inside wasn't seriously injured, he used his bare hands to ensure the vehicle didn't roll off the motorway.

That's a pretty impressive feat when you look at the size of the lorry compared to the policeman.

Mr Willis wrote on Twitter: "1st on the scene of this collision on the #A1M this morning and faced with a vehicle balancing over the edge of a bridge with the driver trapped!

"After holding on to the vehicle to stop it swaying in the wind I can't begin to describe my relief when @WYFRS arrived on scene!"

The policeman says there was a fair bit of snow and ice on the carriageway and that's probably what contributed to the accident. Since uploading a photo of his superhuman strength on Twitter, thousands of people have liked, retweeted and commented on the post, including other police officers.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the bloke's dad messaged PC Willis to thank him for his awesome work. He said: "Just like to say thanks 'motorway Martin' for your intervention, the driver is our son and you'll never know how grateful my partner and I are you should be renamed motorway marvel once again thank you so much."

PC Adam Pace added: "Your superman cape isn't in this photo though! Must have come off in the fracas!

"How on earth did you manage to do all this and get a photo? Awesome work.

"It's great that you're a twitter user and you're in a position to share. Otherwise it would be another great thing that goes unheard."

A member of the public also congratulated him on his efforts, saying: "That must've been a heart stopping moment!! Well done for holding on, and helping to save that drivers life. They must be very grateful to all that attended."
