It has been announced that WhatsApp will stop working on over 50 phones from 1 November 2021.

This means that millions of people will be blocked from using the popular messaging application unless they upgrade their device or their software is updated.

According to the WhatsApp, the move is to keep things secure and safe for users which means phasing out support for older phone models.

But it's worth noting again that some of the models on the list can have their software updated so that it will work without forking out for a new phone.

The iPhone 6S is one of these as well as iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE (iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 variants). Basically, if you have anything older than an iPhone 4S you will have to get a new handset because the phones can't install the correct software.

If Apple users with any of the above want to figure out how to update their software they can go to Settings > General > Software Update and find the version you're using.

When it comes to Android users, you'll need to be using Android 4.1 or later, according to The Sun.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp users were asked to adhere and agree to a new privacy policy with anyone refusing being booted off the app.

The changes to the privacy policy include new sections on WhatsApp's new business messaging service, transactions and payments data, and location information.
