Elin Ersson, 22, was on a flight from Gothenburg to Istanbul where she was sat in front of an Afghan man who was being sent back to Afghanistan.

The unnamed man was due to change at Istanbul and fly out to Kabul, a tearful Errson explained in the clip.

In a 14-minute live-stream she claimed that the man would 'most likely get killed' if he was forced to go back to Afghanistan and refused to take a seat until the man was taken off theTurkish Airlines flight.

Other passengers and crew-members urged Errson to take her seat so the plane could take off, but she was undeterred.

During the emotional livestream, she says: "I don't want a man's life to be taken away just because you don't want to miss your flight.

"I am not going to sit down until the person is off the plane.

"I am doing what I can to save a person's life. As long as a person is standing up the pilot cannot take off.

"All I want to do is stop the deportation and then I will comply with the rules here. This is all perfectly legal and I have not committed a crime."

Her actions resulted in her and the man, 52, being taken off the plane.

Ulf Mossberg from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service told the BBC: "Asylum cases are decided by the immigration office.

"If they make a decision that someone will be deported they hand the person to the national border police. The police then can ask us to perform that transportation.

"What happened on this flight was that the pilot of the plane decided that our personnel and the Afghan man were not allowed to fulfil the flight."

According to the BBC, the man will likely be deported later and Ersson could face legal charges over her actions. However, online, many have hailed her a hero and praised her for literally taking a stand over the issue.

One Twitter user wrote: "I applaud you and your heroic actions. If only we all had the strength to act and fight for what we believe in."

While another wrote: "Thank you for your stand, for your courage, compassion and hope. You have sent us all a message to stand up in what we believe in and not shy away from what is right."
