Following Kamila Valieva’s doping scandal and stellar performance at the Women’s Short Programme in the Winter Olympics which landed her top of the leaderboard with 82.16, onlookers want to know who her parents are.

After being subject to an investigation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over drug allegations, Valieva’s mother has been helping to defend the skating star.

On 8th February 2022, the Russian anti-doping agency received a tip that Valieva had failed a drugs test. As a result, she was temporarily suspended, but was soon reinstated, the BBC reported.

Then, the IOC and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), although the CAS decided that Valieva could complete, as the appeal was related to her original ban, and not the failed drugs test.

Who are Kamila Valieva’s parents?

Kamila Valieva’s mother is Asu Valieva, an accountant/analyst in Moscow, according to HITC.

The identity of the 15-year-old’s father, however, is currently unknown.

Her parents welcomed Valieva into the world on 26th April 2006 in Kazan, Russia, around 512 miles from Moscow.

It has been reported that the ice-skater was initially encouraged to try gymnastics and ballet in her early youth, but did not choose to pursue these sports.

When Valieva was aged six, she moved with her mother from Kazan to Moscow, and was subsequently introduced to the world of ice skating.

The ice-skater studied at the Moskvich skating school, and moved to Tutberidze in 2018.

She has since set nine world records during her early career, including becoming the first female skater to break the 250, 260 and 270 point thresholds in the total score, and the first to break the 170 and 180 point thresholds during a free skate, as well as the first to break the 90-point threshold during a short programme.
