Sacha Baron Cohen Gives US Politician Roy Moore A 'Paedophile Test'

With his new TV series, Who Is America?, Sacha Baron Cohen - the man behind Ali G, Borat and Brüno - has been tearing apart the very fabric of the political system in the United States of America. The third episode aired last night in America (and will be shown tonight in the UK), and this happened:

It's perhaps one of the most uncomfortable moments of the series so far, and that's saying something. In an interview with Alabama Judge Roy Moore, Sacha - disguised as the obviously fictional 'General Erran Morad' - sits down with Moore and discusses Alabama's support for Israel and the state's reputation as 'a place for equality' - although the state is notorious for its uncomfortable race relations.

'General Morad' then shows Moore a new device developed by the Israeli Army that's able to detect an enzyme allegedly secreted by paedophiles.

Moore narrowly lost the special election to become Alabama's senator to Democrat candidate Doug Jones after being accused by nine women of sexual misconduct, one of whom said she was 14 during an alleged encounter with Moore when he was 32. He denied all accusations.

You can see Moore stiffen as his interviewer brings out the device.

"In Israel they've developed a machine that is used in schools and playgrounds to detect anyone coming in," says Sacha, "and if they detect the paedophile, the wand alerts the law enforcement and schools within a hundred-mile radius."

He waves it over himself and nothing happens, but then when he brings it towards Moore, it beeps.

"It must be malfunctioning," Morad says. He tries it on himself again, and then on another man in the room, and the machine stays silent for both. He brings it near Moore again and - of course - the machine goes off. He then tries it on another man in the room, to which it stays silent.

That's when Moore seems to catch on that this may be a set-up.

"I've been married for 33 [years] and never had an accusation of such things," he says, and then walks out of the room. Awkward.

It's another must-watch moment in the series. In the first episode, Sacha got a bunch of politicians and former politicians to advocate children as young as four to be trained with guns.

In the second, he set up Georgia state representative Jason Spencer, who seeingly had no issues with shouting the 'N-word' on camera. He'd already lost an election before this aired and was seeing out the rest of his term, but was forced to resign after the episode has aired. Who will be his next victim? We can't wait to find out.
