Gen Z employees reveal controversial work habit that older generations have zero tolerance for

When you rock up to the office with a coffee in hand, who is already rolling their eyes at you?

There’s no denying that just the phrase ‘Gen Zs in the workplace’ gets older people’s eyes rolling.

But it’s like they seem to forget they were once the fresh youngsters rocking up to the office. Although, it does seem somewhat understandable that older generations have zero tolerance for this controversial work habit.

For those born in the early to mid 90s, it might make you feel a little old to realise that plenty of those ‘young’ Gen Zers are at the age to have finished university and be in the same workplace as you.

And while you try and insist that you’re neither a millennial or a Gen Z, your opinion on the habit might determine which side you’re on.

That’s because, apparently, the younger group believe showing up about ten minutes late to work is just as good as being on time.

According to the Daily Mail, almost half of workers aged 16 to 26 reckon being between five - ten minutes late is perfectly fine – it’s essentially right on time.

However, perhaps unsurprisingly, accepting that idea is not so common with older age groups.

GEN Z FOUND TO BE MOST DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH

About 39 percent of millennials (aged between 27 and 42) will forgive friends or their colleagues for being up to 10 minutes late.

And that drops quickly to 26 percent for Generation X (43 to 58) and a pretty intolerant 20 percent for the old Baby Boomers (over 59).

Adding to that, if you’re a Gen Z and your boss is in that last category, you might want to be careful about pushing those minutes when you rock up in the morning.

A mega seven out of 10 Boomers have zero tolerance for any level of tardiness with 69 percent of them simply agreeing ‘late is late’.

But only 21 percent of Gen Z are on board with that idea.

Although, when it comes to other people arriving late to meetings, Meeting Canary found that 60 percent of Gen Z would be annoyed. Well, that’s a little hypocritical isn’t it?

Unsurprisingly, that shoots up again to 79 percent of Baby Boomers being p**sed off if their colleagues log on late to a call or show up late to the meeting.

It seems that while most of the younger lot think it’s perfectly fine to be a little late to things, older people are actually more likely to show up a little early. How about just, you know, being on time lads?
