Man Pays For Paramedic's Petrol Bill In Spontaneous Act Of Kindness

A man paid for a paramedic's petrol after he saw him in his uniform at a Rochdale petrol station and made the world a slightly better place.

It's always great to be reminded that there are some genuinely decent people in this world, especially when so many so often do their best to disprove that. So, here's one for the good guys.

Forty-three-year-old Tony Jones was on his way to work the night shift as an emergency medical technician for North West Ambulance Service when he stopped at the Texaco Garage on Halifax Road in Rochdale and filled up his car.

But when he walked inside the petrol station to pay the £40 ($56) bill, he discovered that someone, having seen Tony wearing his uniform, had already done so for him.

"I went outside and thanked him. He told me that we, meaning North West Ambulance Service, do a fantastic job and it's the least he could do for people who do such an important job," Tony wrote on Facebook.

Talking about the incident with the Manchester Evening News, Tony said: "I was stood at the pump filling up and I did see him look at me.

"We both walked inside together and he was in front of me in the queue. He left and as I went to pay the man behind the counter said it had already been paid.

"I thought it was a mistake but they said it wasn't. I was a bit dumbfounded really. The man walked off and did not want any recognition.

"I stopped him as I was pulling away in his car and he just said that it was the least he could do because of what we as paramedics do. Then I shook his hand and that was it."

Tony recounted the gesture of kindness on social media in an attempt to discover the identity of the good Samaritan, as all he knew is that they shared the first same name.

As yet, we don't know if the other Tony has come forward, but Tony encouraged anyone who might know him to tag him in Tony's Facebook post about it all.

It seems that Tony might want to keep a low profile, but he shouldn't - in our eyes, he's a real hero. And not just our eyes, either.

On Facebook, Cathy Cubbin wrote: "Tony, I think you have brought a lump to the throat of every staff member in the ambulance service. Wow. What a gesture."

Susan Little was equally impressed with Tony's generosity. She said: "Fantastic....restores your faith. Well done to you - whoever you are."
