A mum has proudly revealed her unusual upside down Christmas tree - which took two days to decorate.
Christmas may be the best part of two months away, but Kira Darkin-Dias spent last week getting her home in Basildon, Essex, ready for festive season in unique fashion.
The mum-of-four posted snaps of her distinctive upside down tree on Facebook, with the post racking up thousands of likes.
Speaking to The Sun about her topsy-turvy tree, the 26-year-old said: "I've had the upside down tree for a good few years now. Ever since I was little my dad used to make my Christmases so magical. He would decorate the whole house like a grotto.
"It was amazing and I still remember the excitement I used to get even to this day. I take my hat off to my dad as it always took days to achieve what he used to do.
"That's where I get my inspiration from. We always go all out on decorations when it comes to Christmas as we want it to be as magical for the kids as possible."
In order to achieve maximum magicalness, Kira puts in the hours.
She said: "It takes me two days to do the tree as the detail is unbelievable; the twigs, décor and even the fake snow spray.
"I'm very particular in how my tree is decorated so you can imagine the hours that are put into it.
"The upside down tree is such good quality, the branches and the stability of it is exceptional. It fits perfectly in the corner and doesn't make anyone trip over the usual bulky branches of a Christmas tree. It's pretty heavy but it does come in three sections.
"The illusion of the tree is fantastic. It puzzles people straight away. But realistically it's just like a normal tree. It has a stand, believe it or not.
"It has feet and a stand just like the regular trees but when the stand is covered, it creates a clever illusion to the eye."
But as well as clearly being a novel take on a classic fixture of Christmas, Kira said it also has a number of practical benefits.
She explained: "The space this tree allows us to have is great. With four children, one cat and one dog this tree is perfect. The pets are absolutely fine with it and don't even attempt to destroy it.
"The kids love putting the tree up and they love being different too. They always say 'Mummy all the other trees are not like ours! We are cool as ours is upside down'.
"The decorations hang perfectly on the tree and there is so much potential with a tree like this.
"Also the space to fit the gifts around the tree is unreal. No more squished presents. I wouldn't want to go back to the traditional tree."
So there you have it; trees may be perfectly designed for their environment, but perhaps they're better off the other way up when the environment is your present-and-pet-packed living room.
