Man wins $1 million lottery twice with two tickets after arguing with his wife

Man wins $1 million lottery twice with two tickets after arguing with his wife

A man ended up winning a $1 million lottery twice shortly after being in the doghouse with his wife.

A man from Australia has literally hit the jackpot as he won the lottery not once, but twice with just two tickets.

It came after the unnamed man was in the doghouse after an argument with his wife because he forgot to purchase lottery tickets the previous week.

To make up for it this week, the man decided to purchase two identical tickets, both of which came through.

As a result, the couple, from Dapto, Australia, were awarded AU $2 million (£1.1 million) for winning the two division one games.

The couple have been using 29, 44, 4, 18, 35 and 45, with the supplementary numbers 10 and 32 for decades.

And while they have never been drawn before, that all changed with the Lotto draw on Monday (13 March).

Speaking to Lotto, the man said: "My wife has played these numbers for almost three decades and has always said they'd be drawn one day."

When the man's wife was checking the numbers on Tuesday morning, she had no idea that her husband had bought the identical ticket.

The man said: "Lo and behold, this morning she kept crossing off number after number on her ticket, and once we realised we'd won $1 million on one ticket, I thought I should probably tell her about the second identical ticket too."

As I'm sure many of us would do, the wife said that she screamed in delight after she won the $1 million, but apparently almost fell unconscious after she heard the couple had bagged $2 million.

The husband admitted that he is still in utter shock, saying that he 'can't believe this has happened to us'.

So what exactly do the millionaires plan on doing with their money?

Well, they admitted that they don't need the massive winnings to be happy, and will use the money to support their family and have some nice holidays.

"It won't take much to make us happy," the wife said.

"I can buy my daughter a house, I can set up the children and grandchildren for the future.

"Once we've done that, then we can enjoy whatever is left.

"I'd love to travel around Australia and see all the parts of our country I haven't seen."

To win the lottery twice is 'pretty extraordinary', according to Matt Hart from the Aussie lottery in an interview with Yahoo News Australia last year.

But it has happened before.

"I'll always remember there was a Victorian couple and they won Set For Life twice in the one draw," he recalled.

"So this was a lady for their wedding anniversary bought two identical Set For Life tickets and she had one and gave one to her husband and they both won $4.8 million."
