Twitter User Creates Map Of UK As US States

Has he got your area spot on?

A bloke has created a map showing what he reckons the British equivalents to US states are.

Twitter user @MilkmanMeme posted the detailed map in which he's compared Cornwall to Florida, Scotland to Texas and Somerset to Louisiana.

Revealing his thinking behind the comparisons, he writes: "The West Country is the American South for, well, fairly obvious reasons.

"Cornwall, like Florida, is sort of in the West Country (the South) but not really - it's kind of its own thing.

"It also has lots of cool beaches and palm trees and people like to go there on holiday. The Isles of Scilly are the Florida Keys."

He then says Devon is like Georgia because it has 'quite a few big country estates', before explaining that Dorset is similar to South Carolina because it has 'some pretty good beaches' but not quite as good as the ones in Cornwall.

He adds: "Somerset is Louisiana because while the largest city Bath, like New Orleans, is fancy and sophisticated, the rural areas are not (I'm from Somerset so can confirm).

"Also, we make our own brew; Scrumpy is our Moonshine."

Meanwhile, he says: "Wales is California because it's quite big and has some really nice national parks.

Picturesque Cornwall.

"Also Cardiff is like L.A. and Swansea is San Francisco - if you've been there you know."

Seemingly keen to ruffle a few feathers he says London is like New York because it's the largest city and financial capital, before adding: "They also like to think they're better than the rest of the country."

Continuing with that theme of angering his fellow countrymen, the Twitter user then writes: "Berkshire is Maryland because it's the worst county in the South East (worst state in the North East)".

As well as posting: "Gloucestershire is Alabama because, well, have you ever met someone from Gloucestershire?"

As you can imagine, the post has attracted plenty of comments from Brits agreeing and disagreeing with his suggestions.

One person wrote: "Good overall but Kansas Tyneside and Minnesota Merseyside are huge blunders."

While someone else said: "Gloucestershire as Alabama! No - just no."

Another chipped in: "As a resident of Cornwall can safely say that the only ways I can think of how we resemble Florida are that we get wind and rain like they have in hurricane season and we've got a significant population of retired folks."
