2021 delivered the sequel to John Krasinski's American horror film, A Quiet Place. The Office star tried his hand in directing feature films, and clearly, the work has paid off. With two highly successful movies under his belt, when will we see another edition in the Quiet Place saga?
A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place Part II (2021) star John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, who play a mother and father struggling to keep themselves and their children safe in a post-apocalyptic world.
The planet has been taken over by blind monsters with a heightened sense of hearing, meaning that any noises you make will be heard by the creatures. Survivors of the apocalypse must ensure that their movements are completely silent, or else the creatures will follow the sound and hunt them down.
The second instalment is a direct sequel, following on from the events in the first film. Production took place from June 2019 to September 2019, with a delayed release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The plot centres around the Abbott family from the original movie, who are looking for remaining survivors.
The success of the sequel has meant that A Quiet Place Part II has become the biggest box office hit in North America since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. As theatres begin to reopen, it seems that fans are well and truly getting their film fix.
Emily Blunt has stated that A Quiet Place Part II is the second chapter in a trilogy, suggesting another main film is on the cards. It is not clear whether writing has taken place for this instalment, or whether the idea itself has only just been proposed.
The first instalment in the franchise was filmed between May 2017 and November 2017.
In November 2020, Jeff Nichols was hired to write and direct a spin-off film, based on John Krasinski's original ideas for the film series.
This film is scheduled for release on March 31st, 2023, according to Digital Spy.
And rumours say that a third instalment of A Quiet Place has already been given the green light by Paramount.
But with John Krasinski busy writing, directing and starring in Imaginary Friends, which comes out in November 2023, it's likely A Quiet Place part 3 will be out after that.
At present, there have been no trailers released for the third instalment in the franchise, nor Jeff Nichols' spin-off.
We'll let you know as soon as one drops though.
It is assumed that the surviving characters of the main family (no spoilers!) will feature in the third film by John Krasinski.
In regards to Jeff Nichols' movie, it could broaden the cast wider and involve other survivors, or perhaps show how the world looked pre-apocalypse.
It seems that these films are in early development, according to rumours.
As the first two films centre around one family, it would make sense for a third instalment to show how the children are progressing and learning to live in a post-apocalyptic world.
The Abbott family have illustrated themselves to be strong and resilient, which could mean that upcoming movies look at how others like them have managed to survive, or how the monsters came to invade the planet.
One of the most striking parts of the original two films is how the family members are able to communicate effectively through American Sign Language. As one of the daughters in the family has a cochlear implant, the family already knows how to communicate quietly. Whispering and treading lightly does help, but the use of ASL means that The Abbott family already had an advantage in silent communication.
It is not likely that we will see any concrete answers until the reception for A Quiet Place Part II has been determined.
If viewing figures prove to be strong, then the third A Quiet Place and the spin-off film will likely be announced in the coming months.
