Anne Hathaway doesn't like being called 'Anne'

Anne Hathaway doesn't like being called 'Anne'

The actress really isn't keen on the name her parents gave her and prefers going by something else

Despite the fact Anne Hathaway's parents peered down at their newborn 41-years-ago and decided that she definitely looked like an Anne, the actress herself couldn't disagree more.

If you're a fan of the film star, this is your time to make a mental note to never refer to her by her government name if you run into her one day.

Under any circumstances.

Not unless you want Hathaway to turn around in a blind panic and expecting to see her mum with a wagging finger chasing her down the street, as Kate McCauley Hathaway is the only person on the planet who can call her Anne.

I mean, she is the woman who brought her into this world to be fair, so it's no wonder she's the only one who has been awarded this privilege. Take a look at this:

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Bride Wars star revealed she has a serious lack of affection towards her first name and would prefer for people to call her 'anything but Anne'.

"Call me Annie, everybody, everybody, call me Annie, please," she said, before the actress opened the full can of worms and added: "Can we talk about my name for a second?"

Annie (there you go) went on to explain that although Anne is her real first name and the moniker listed on her birth certificate, it's really more of a stage name in her eyes.

The Idea Of You star explained: "When I was 14 years old, I did a commercial, and I had to get my SAG [Screen Actors Guild] card and they asked me, 'What do you want your name to be?'

"And I was like, 'Well, it should be my name. My name's Anne Hathaway'.

"So that seemed like the right choice, but it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life, people will call me Anne."

Hathaway's not too fussy when it comes to what you decide to call her instead - as long as it's not Anne, of course - explaining that people call her Annie, Miss H or Hath.

She told host Jimmy Fallon: "The only person who calls me Anne is my mother and she only does it when she's really mad at me, like really mad.

"So, every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they're going to yell at me.

"People are like, "Anne!" And I'm like, 'What? What did I do?'

"People are so lovely they don't want to be presumptuous and so I think they come up with workarounds on set because the truth is nobody's comfortable with calling me Anne ever.

"It doesn't fit. I'm an Annie."

I mean, between Hathaway and Emma Stone, we've got a lot of name preferences to keep up with.
