Fast and Furious fans, get your popcorn and your Tango Ice Blast at the ready. F9 is officially coming to UK cinemas - and even earlier than we originally expected as the release date has just been brought forward. Apparently we're in for an action-packed, chart-topping ninth instalment from the flagship franchise.

It's been four years since we last caught up with Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew of street-savvy, death-defying drivers - and we can think of no better first trip back to the cinema than one to go and watch F9.

Looking ahead to the release date, you've probably got some unanswered questions, like: Why has it taken Toretto nine films to mention he has a brother? Is Han back? And what's happening with Hobbs and Shaw in F9?

All those questions and more answered here. But first, take a look at the explosive trailer below.

Fast and Furious 9 UK release date

Now that coronavirus restrictions are easing and cinemas are open, we can enjoy watching Toretto and his 'familia' on the big screen from 24th June.

The release date was brought forward from the original date of 8th July in the UK. Cineworld, VUE, Odeon and Showcase are now selling tickets online.

And for once, the UK is ahead of the US with a film's release. F9 comes out in the States on 28th June.

Is Fast and Furious on Netflix UK?

The Fast and Furious movies are on Netflix, but they're not available for UK viewers at the moment.

If you fancy a recap before the release of F9, all of the Fast and Furious movies are currently available on Sky and Amazon Prime for UK viewers.

F9 cast

The ninth film is bringing in a new opponent with particularly close ties to Toretto: Jakob (John Cena), his younger brother, who's on the hunt with his old foe Cipher (Charlize Theron).

Han (Sung Kang) has somehow risen from the dead and will be appearing in F9, alongside Richard Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges) and Megan Ramsay (Nathalie Emmanuel). Mia (Jordana Brewster) is also making a comeback.

Sadly though, Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (Jason Statham) won't be in the Fast 9 movie, but they did say Fast 10 could be a possibility. Rumours of a feud between Johnson and Diesel don't appear to be true, as Johnson ended a social media video after the release of Hobbs and Shaw with "I'll be seeing you soon Toretto."

Johnson and Statham have been busy filming Fast and Furious presents: Hobbs and Shaw, and a clash in schedules meant the two wouldn't be in Fast 9.

In an interview with MTV News, Johnson confirmed this, saying: "As of now, we're not in Fast 9 because they're getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know."

F9 plot: What do the Fast gang get up to this time?

It turns out there's one person who is possibly more skilled than Dom Toretto: his forsaken brother, Jakob. F9 sees Toretto and his crew join forces to battle this highly skilled assassin and wicked driver.

According to Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty, it's going to be the most explosive and dramatic film yet. And it's going to be quite literally out of this world, with a scene which takes Toretto and his crew into space.

"To be quite honest, the kinds of things that are happening in the Fast world in this movie... pretty much astounded me," she told LADbible.

"When I was reading the script, I was like... no way. Then we were shooting it, and I was like... no way. Then I was watching the stunt footage they were filming in different parts of the world, and I was like... no, no way! [Laughs] Then I saw it all together and I'm like... oh my god this is happening."

For a franchise that's seen a cargo plane destroyed on the longest runway in the world, a tank torn through the streets of Rio and a supercar flying through three buildings, it's hard to imagine that the filmmakers have somehow managed to top all of that in F9.

We can't wait!
