The final movie in The Fast and the Furious franchise will premiere in 2025

Vin Diesel has revealed the last two films will be split into two and he's getting ready to say goodbye to family.

We've finally been given a release date for the last film in one of the biggest franchises to ever grace cinema.

The Fast and the Furious debuted all the way back in 2001 and there have been nine movies made in total, as well as one spine-off, two short films and a TV series.

The saga has since become one of the most financially successful franchises ever.

The main film series has made more than $6.6 billion at the worldwide box office.

And now, we're getting close to the saga finally coming to an end.

Universal Pictures

Fast X, which will be the 10th film in the main franchise, will be released on May 19 this year.

Vin Diesel, who has appeared in most of the movies, showed up to CinemaCon to talk about the latest addition to the family.

But he's also revealed when the final movie will drop.

"This summer is only the beginning of Fast X," Diesel told the crowd.

"And with all of your effort and with all of your love and the fact that you are a part of our family, Fast X will continue.

"And after this explosive summer, I will have the privilege of coming to you for Part 2 in 2025."

So, if you were holding you breath that it would come out sooner, then you might want to exhale.

According to Collider, Diesel was joined on stage with fellow Fast co-stars Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and Sung Kang.

The main star told the crowd: "Fast is now the longest running franchise in movie history featuring the same actors playing the same characters.”

He added: "This is our family, the audience is our family, and as we were building towards this achievement we attracted directors who brought their own magic to the saga.

Universal Pictures

"I'm proud to say for nearly two decades the Fast films have been the most successful film of every one of our directors."

Up until now, the final film was being referred to as Fast 11, so the idea that it's now morphed into Fast X: Part 2 means Fast X might end on a bit of a cliffhanger.

The movie will be directed by Louis Leterrier, who took over the project after Justin Lin left due to 'creative differences'.

He told Empire Magazine about what we can expect to see in the last movie in the franchise.

"There's a war brewing. It's coming to an end and it is a race to the finish," he said.

"There will be some tremendous casualties. This one is big.

"I don't want to oversell it, but what we're planning on the next one is just gigantic, in terms of action, scope and emotion.

"You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll."

Oooft, sounds like it will be a finale to end all finales. You just need to wait until 2025 to see it.
