Fans of the new Netflix action flick The Gray Man are calling on star Ryan Gosling to become the next James Bond. You can see him in action here:

With Daniel Craig vacating the role, the search is on for a new Bond and it’s certainly not short of candidates with British stars Tom Hardy, Idris Elba and Henry Cavill all having been tipped to play him.

However, after watching The Gray Man, which landed on Netflix earlier this week, fans reckon Gosling could be ideal for the job.

Posting on Twitter one wrote: “I’m all for Tom Hardy being the new James Bond. But after watching The Gray Man on Netflix. Ryan Gosling would be perfect for the role.”

Another said: “I didn’t expect The Gray Man to be this good. Ryan Gosling For James Bond.”

While someone else commented: “Currently watching The Gray Man, can’t stop thinking of Ryan Gosling as Bond.”

A fourth wrote: “I like how predictable The Gray Man was. Formulaic good agent gone rogue for a good cause. Bodyguard to young girl dynamic. Well choreographed fight scenes (giving John Wick). Zero surprises too. Ryan Gosling embodied the bad ass agent so well. Giving James Bond.”

Netflix

The action-packed thriller stars Gosling as an covert CIA officer - known as Six - who accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets and ends up with a bounty on his head by psychopathic former colleague Lloyd Hansen (played by Chris Evans), which triggers an international manhunt.

Given the subject matter, Gosling is aware of the comparisons the role has brought, in an interview with Sky News he said: “I think you can't kind of step into it without those comparisons and we even acknowledge it in the movie.

"I mean there's one point where he says [the alias] 007 was taken - I like the idea that this movie existed in a world that was aware that there were Bond movies and this was a different take on it, a less glamorised version of it."

Netflix

But what does he think about the possibility of slipping on a tux and sipping on a martini - shaken, not stirred, obviously?

"I'm not sure that they want a Canadian in that role," he joked.

"I'm not sure anyone's, you know, asking for that, I don't even think Canadians are asking for that, I don't think anyone wants that."

Well, we’ve had an Aussie Bond, mate - so who knows what might happen, eh?

The Gray Man is streaming on Netflix now.
