Chrissy Teigen has officially quit Twitter, saying in a lengthy farewell message that the platform no longer serves her 'positively'.

The model and entrepreneur has become well-known for her online presence, often taking on trolls or calling people out.

But now she's decided the time is right to leave Twitter, telling followers she's a 'sensitive s***' who is unable to block out the negativity.

In a series of tweets posted before she deactivated her account, Teigen wrote: "Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends.

"But it's time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that's the right time to call something.

"My life goal is to make people happy. The pain I feel when I don't is too much for me. I've always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I'm just not.

"My desire to be liked and fear of p***ing people off has made me somebody you didn't sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as! Live well, tweeters. Please know all I ever cared about was you!!!"

Teigen continued: "I encourage you to know and never forget that your words matter. No matter what you see, what that person portrays, or your intention. For years I have taken so many small, 2-follower count punches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised.

"I have made my mistakes, throughout years and in front of hundreds of thousands, and been held accountable for them. I've learned an incredible amount here.

"God I have said f***ed up s*** and killed myself over it as much as you killed me. But one thing I haven't learned is how to block out the negativity.

"I'm just a sensitive s***, okay!? I don't wanna be this way! I just am! But I love you guys and I cherish our time together, I truly do. I also hate you."

She signed off the tweets with a love heart symbol.

It follows backlash the star received for teaming up with Kris Jenner on Safely, a line of plant-based cleaning products.

Many people criticised her for collaborating with the Kardashian family, while others said she shouldn't be profiting from 'MORE products' due to her already successful empire, which includes her own food brand Cravings.

One person wrote: "I love you so much, Ms. Teigen... but really? MORE products? More profit?"

Another added: "Love you but don't like you getting involved with that family. Does not fit with your brand. You are better than this. Sad to see this."

However, some fans have come to Teigen's defence in her absence, saying the internet 'bullied' her off the platform.

One tweeted: "I'm bummed about Chrissy Teigen leaving Twitter. People and the media can be brutal for no reason. This website is worse off now that she is not here."

Another said: "You f***ers bullied Chrissy Teigen off Twitter. All she did was share recipes and tell dumb jokes. What the hell is wrong with you."

A third wrote: "It's weird how proud some are of bullying Chrissy Teigen off twitter. Like you know she'll still be rich and pretty and famous. And now she won't have to deal with the annoyance that is you."
