Tom Hardy's Performance In Venom Movie Is A 'Masterclass', Says Producer

With Tom Hardy being one of biggest draws in cinema today, you can see why people are so excited at the prospect of him starring in Marvel's forthcoming Venom movie. Well, here's something to whet your appetite even further: his performance has now been described as a 'masterclass'.

Producer Matthew Tolmach spoke with MTV News, and while he wouldn't give too much away about the upcoming film itself, he was hugely complimentary about its main star.

You know, Tom... it's like a masterclass watching him act every day and he's such a risk taker and he loved this character," said Tolmach.

"From the day that we first met with him, my partner Avi Arad and I... we found someone who just believed in this character entirely and yet every day pushes it to a place that us mere mortals would never expect it to go."

Sounds promising, eh?

With shooting for the film having commenced towards the end of October, rumours have been circulating about exactly which direction the film is likely to take the character - which, in the original comics, is formed from an alien symbiote that combines with a human host to form the monstrous Venom.

It now looks as thought inspiration for the film will come from two of the character's more popular storylines: Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes. So if you're the type who likes to read the comics before watching the movie so you can say where they've gone wrong, well, now you know where to look.

Venom was initially created as a dark nemesis for Spider-Man, but has since become a popular antihero in his own right.

Topher Grace previously played the role in 2007's coolly-received Spider-Man 3, but with the webslinger's franchise having received a successful reboot earlier this year, fans are hopeful that a new movie should live up to expectations. I mean, Tom Hardy in the title role can't hurt, right?

In the meantime, fans can put to bed the recent rumours that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Riz Ahmad might be down to play the sinister Carnage in the Venom movie.

While Ahmad's presence on the cast list has been confirmed, a tweet from Atlanta Filming now suggests he's taking on the role of Dr Carlton Drake, head of the Life Foundation - a key component in the Lethal Protector story arc.

The plot sees the organisation hunting down Venom to study the alien symbiote, which ultimately leads to the creation of five new nightmarish monsters: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony. So if this is all going in the new movie... well, sounds pretty cool to us.
