Harry Styles has trolled those who mocked him after he wore a dress for his recent Vogue cover, sharing an Instagram photo of himself eating a banana with the caption 'Bring back manly men'.

Styles was the cover star for Vogue's December 2020 issue, featuring in a series of images which showed the star wearing a long, frilly blue dress.

Other photos from the series also saw him don a kilt, an oversized coat and a white mesh underskirt with pink bow.

But while many praised Styles for the shoot, not everyone had as much love to give - not least conservative commentator Candace Owens.

At the time of the images' release, she tweeted: "There is no society that can survive without strong men.

"The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminisation of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack. Bring back manly men."

Now Styles has shared a simple, but very effective comeback, quoting Owens' bizarre words back to her - also posting a photo of himself eating a banana while wearing a pale blue suit and white shirt with frilled cuffs.

Owens then tried to get back in on the action, commenting on the Instagram post: "Thanks God you agree. Harry Styles promoting Candace Owens."

She added: "He looks great! He just doesn't look masculine."

Over on Twitter, she tried to claim that she had 'influence' and had inspired 'global conversation', saying: "Shots fired."

But it would appear that Styles has won this round, based on the support he's received from fans.

Oh, and he's now trending on Twitter, too.

One person tweeted: "Harry Styles shading misogynistic homophobic nincompoops while wearing a feminine suit and biting on a banana with the caption 'bring back manly men' would forever be ICONIC."

Another Twitter user wrote: "HARRY STYLES SHADING CANDACE OWENS IS EVERYTHING TO ME."

Either way, it doesn't look like he's too fussed by the hate - in a new interview with Variety, Styles said: "To not wear [something] because it's females' clothing, you shut out a whole world of great clothes. And I think what's exciting about right now is you can wear what you like. It doesn't have to be X or Y. Those lines are becoming more and more blurred."

Too right.
