Jennifer Aniston Sets Guinness World Record As Fastest To Reach One Million Instagram Followers

The Friends star took little more than five hours to amass one million followers

Just yesterday, Jennifer Aniston announced her arrival on Instagram with a photograph of a full Friends cast reunion (the big six that is; not Gunther, Mike and all that).

Now, she has 9.4 million followers (probably even more by the time you're reading this) and a Guinness World Record to her name, having become the fastest person to amass one million Instagram followers.

She reached the mighty landmark in just five hours and 16 minutes, becoming the third person this year to break the record.

In April, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set a record of five hours and 45 minutes after they launched Instagram page @sussexroyal, and before them K-pop star Kang Daniel reached one million followers in 11 hours and 36 minutes.

Aniston herself has featured in the Guinness World Records before, sharing the title of highest-paid TV actress per episode with fellow Friends cast members Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox.

However, her most recent record is a little surprising, given that the 50-year-old has previously seemed keen to avoid social media completely.

Explaining her reasoning a couple of years back on The Thrive Global Podcast with Arianna Huffington, she said: "For me, it's self-preservation. There's enough written about me out there and enough that's not true.

"There's one school of thought, which is, 'Why don't you be on social media and really show who you really are?' And I don't need to.

"This is the one place I have that's really protected and is mine and is what my life is without a camera rolling or paparazzi or media exposure.

"I don't feel I'm missing out, but I do sometimes feel that I'm not keeping up or that things are happening at a speed at which I'm going to be left behind in the dark ages.

"There's that curiosity that I have of, 'What is that? What's so funny? What's so interesting? What cute pet video is that?' So every once in a while I will Google someone's Instagram just to see something that caught someone's eye here or there."

Aniston probably won't be able to count her millions of Instagram followers on two hands by the time you're reading this.

Evidently though, she had a change of heart - which presumably wasn't motivated by the prospect of claiming another Guinness World Record.

Regardless, she now has almost 10 million people eagerly awaiting her second post - though she may be better off quitting while she's ahead, 'cause how the hell is she supposed to follow a full Friends reunion photo?
