Joaquin Phoenix Pays Tribute To Late Brother River During Oscar Acceptance Speech
Joaquin Phoenix has been crowned this year's Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his starring role in Joker.
Many were expecting the Hollywood star to clinch the coveted prize after the movie was praised left, right and centre by critics and fans.
During his acceptance speech, Joaquin didn't hold back about his views on veganism and the need to move away from factory farming.
"I think that we've become very disconnected from the natural world," he told the crowd on Hollywood's night of nights.
"Many of us, what we're guilty of is an egocentric world view: the belief that we're the centre of the universe. We go into the natural world and we plunder its resources.
"We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow and when she gives birth, we steal her baby even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable."

He added that while it might be tough for humans to give up meat, we are so gifted at inventing alternatives that we should be celebrating these advancements.
The actor admitted that he hasn't always been perfect in his past, but called on Hollywood's elite to help make the future a better place by the choice they make.
Phoenix continued: "That's when we're at our best - when we support each other. Not when we cancel each other out for past mistakes, but when we help each other to grow, when we educate each other, when we guide each other toward redemption."
After getting a round of applause for that stirring remark, the actor paused, seemingly trying to find the words that would end his triumph and dramatic speech. Then he sourced the next line from an unlikely place: his late brother, River.
Phoenix said: "When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric and he said 'run to the rescue with love and peace and the rest will follow. Thank you."
River Phoenix was an actor, musician and animal activist who tragically died when he was just 23 years old, from a drug overdose. The death happened just three days after Joaquin's 19th birthday.
