Way back in 2015, Kanye West told the packed out audience at the MTV Video Music Awards that he would run for president in 2020, and since then rumours have swirled about a potential upcoming White House bid.

Now John Legend has revealed that the rapper is 'serious' about becoming the POTUS in 2024.

Speaking on the Dan Wootton Interview podcast, he said: "He's said it multiple times. Yeah, I think he's serious.

"I'd guess he'd run as an independent, but he's never told me anything about what party he would run from. But he's said multiple times that he's interested in running for president."

He went on to say he believes that Kanye, 41, 'sees some aspects of himself' in current president Donald Trump.

John said he and Kanye are now on 'civil' terms after the pair had a bit of a fall out over their differing political views. Earlier this year Kanye shared a bunch of screenshots of text messages sent between the pair, in which he accused John of 'manipulating my free thought'.

The exchange showed John urging his pal to reconsider his support of Trump after he shared photos of a signed Make America Great Hat.

Speaking about the incident on the podcast, John said: "I was surprised he put my messages out there without asking me, sure. I wouldn't say that was a good thing for a friend to do. But I wasn't ashamed of what I said, and I stand by it."

He added that the pair get along but that their political divide 'can't be swept under the rug'.

"For me, I don't believe politics is just purely about debate or about who wins the intellectual argument," he said.

"Politics and policies impact real lives. Kanye's got his own conscience to wrestle with; I have mine."

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Kanye himself has hinted that he will be running in 2024.

In an interview with Power 92 Chicgao's DJ Pharris, he said: "If I decide to do it, it will be done, I'm not going to try,"

"Yes, 100 percent it could happen...2024."

Speaking about his potential presidency, he added: "One of my main things once I'm president is the medical industry. I'm going to make sure that the medical industry flourishes." Good to know.

The way things are at the minute, I reckon Kanye stands as good a chance as anyone...
