Keanu Reeves has chopped off his long locks and is now sporting a closely-cropped hairdo.

The 56-year-old star looks drastically different with his short hair as he gets stuck into filming the Matrix 4 in Berlin.

Reeves was seen being dropped off by his girlfriend Alexandra Grant at a hotel in Berlin.

News.com.au points out that Reeves's short hair and clean-shaven look is similar to how he appeared in the original 1999 movie - in the scene where Neo wakes up in a human breeding facility.

And it seems like this location may be revisited, as the news outlet reports that a truck full of slime was delivered to the set last week.

The eagerly anticipated sequel will be 'something special', according to Reeves.

Speaking to LADbible about the upcoming flick, he said: "We have a lot of hope and ambition, and we hope that people really enjoy them, and we have an ambition to make some really special films."

He added: "I haven't seen them yet, because we're still making them, but I can tell you that [director] Lana Wachowski is an incredible filmmaker and artist and she's written a wonderful script.

"We're doing our darnedest to make something special, and the same goes for John Wick, we hope that we can create a really satisfying and enjoyable next chapter."

As well as Reeves reprising his role as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss will star as Trinity, Jada Pinkett-Smith as Niobe, and Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian.

There are also roles for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick and Jonathan Groff.

Speaking in a statement at the time of the movie's announcement, Lana - who co-wrote and directed the franchise alongside sister Lilly - said: "Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now.

"I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends."
