Matt Damon Covered A Lot Of Ground In His Graduation Speech

Matt Damon Covered A Lot Of Ground In His Graduation Speech

From the EU to Donald Trump.

Matt Damon is Boston through and through, it's never more evident than that in Good Will Hunting, the sublime drama that he and Ben Affleck scripted.

So, it's only right that he returned to Massachusetts at the weekend to deliver the commencement address to MIT's graduating class. Speaking of Good Will Hunting, Damon played a janitor at MIT in that movie, so the choice to appoint Damon certainly makes sense.

The majority of his 20 minute speech covered politics, ranging from the 'should Britain leave the EU?' debate to the problem that is Donald Trump.

He also discussed the working world in which graduates are about to enter which seems a bit odd, as Damon is a multi-millionaire so it can be argued if he really knows anything about the shape of the working world in 2016.

Damon also weaved science and technology into his speech which seemed to keep the attention of the audience.

According to Mashable, Damon spoke about simulation theory and invoked the name of noted Oxford professor Nick Bostrom.

"What if this, all of this, is a simulation," said Damon. "My advice is to go out and do really interesting things, so the simulators don't shut you down ... What we do affects the outcome. So either way, MIT, you've got to go out and do really interesting things, important things, inventive things. Because this world, real or imagined, this world has some problems that we need you to drop everything and solve."

I've little to no idea to what any of that means so watch the damn video to see if you're any wiser.

Still, Matt Damon seems like an alright guy and Jason Bourne is looking like a good movie.
