Almost everyone will have been through a break-up at one stage or another, and now that we have dating apps, there's often just a short wait before one or both parties are swiping their lives away to meet someone new.

At first glance, you might think 65-year-old Bill Gates has already joined the ranks of those looking for love online, in the wake of his split from wife Melinda - look closer, though, and you'll see that he's not quite there yet.

Instead, parody profiles have started popping up on Tinder pretending to be the Microsoft founder.

With people sharing the profiles on Twitter, we can see one listing the 65-year-old's work as 'multi-billionaire', alongside a bio reading: "I can give you an exclusive third dose."

OK, that last bit might sound a bit weird - it's a nod to the baseless, nonsensical conspiracy theories that suggest Bill Gates is putting a microchip in anyone who has the coronavirus vaccination.

Another tweet shared a screenshot of a conversation in which 'Bill' says: "How are you, young lady?" before adding: "I'm so glad I found this application on my Bing:tm: search."

The person he's matched with asks: "Hello so who are you truly?"

Blag Bill replies: "You caught me. My birth name is actually William," to which she says: "Hello William," and in turn he responds: "William Henry Gates III."

One of the other spoof accounts reads: "I'm still rich. I didn't read your bio becoz I know what they all says, 'I love dogs, pizza, not looking for hookups bla bla bla' boring...I've seen trees with more personality [sic]."

The fake account also reads: "Likes: Office365, Vaccines, boring girls without personalities (I hear they live here). Dislikes: iMacs, Anti-vaxxers, Google docs".

Bill and Melinda Gates announced their split last night (3 May), posting a joint statement to Twitter which read: "After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.

"Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.

"We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.

"We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life."

Hope they're able to laugh at this, anyway.
