People Baffled By Kim Kardashian Getting Makeup Done Before Covering Her Face At Met Gala

After seeing her final red carpet look, many people pointed out that her time in the makeup chair seemed fairly pointless.

You may have seen Kim Kardashian's unconventional outfit for the Met Gala yesterday, with many people watching in confusion as she rocked up resembling a literal silhouette in an all-black Balenciaga outfit that covered her entire body and face.

In preparation for the celeb-studded event, Kardashian visited her go-to Hollywood makeup artist to have her face slathered in designer cosmetics, including Crème de la Mer and her own range KKW Beauty.

Mario Dedivanovic, founder and CEO of Makeup By Mario, shared some behind-the-scenes photos of Kardashian getting ready, writing on Instagram: "Prepping for the #MetGala today with @kimkardashian."

But after seeing her final red carpet look, many people pointed out that her time in the makeup chair seemed fairly pointless.

Her full face of designer makeup seemingly went to waste.

Posting a screengrab from Mario's Instagram post and a photo of Kardashian at the Met Gala, one Twitter user wrote: "Was it worth it Mario ????? Was it ????"

Their tweet has since racked up hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes, with many people saying they were left 'cackling' by the observation.

"Slow clap," one person said.

"At least she's being Covid safe... I would quite like this for the school run though to be fair," someone else joked.

"I'M CACKLING," a third added.

The theme for the 2021 Met Gala was 'In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion', intended for guests to celebrate what America means to them and, more importantly, how that translates to fashion.

But while some people saw Kardashian's outfit as 'iconic', others were just confused - especially about how it related to the theme.

One tweeted: "Wtf was Kim Kardashian wearing at the Met Gala she looked like something out of a horror movie."

A second joked: "Nice to see Kim Kardashian turned up to the Harry Potter-themed Met Gala as a s**t Dementor."

Backing the design, a third offered up their analysis of the outfit, saying: "Kim K at #themet hear me out: have we thought maybe she is simply a shadow of herself because she is American fashion? Not that I think SHES fashionable, lord, but she has this platform that has demanded American designers create fashion that is not for 6 ft 105 lb women. Iconic."

Some pointed out she'd have been able to show off her makeup at the after-party, but surely it would all have rubbed off by then?

Opinions have been seriously divided over the 'high fashion' look.

Vogue reports the Balenciaga outfit was designed by Kim's soon-to-be ex-husband Kanye West.

The outlet said: "During their romantic relationship, West wasn't shy about sharing his opinions on Kardashian's wardrobe - an entire episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian's is dedicated to the wardrobe makeover he and his stylist gave her.

"Now that they're friendly exes, West still gives his input. The Met Gala look he created for her reflects his love of minimalism, [Balenciaga's Demna] Gvasalia's, and Kardashian's innate glamour.

"The stark black gown with matching mask and train was unlike anything Kardashian - or anyone else - has worn to the Met before."
