Ricky Gervais has offered to share live videos every day to help keep people's spirits up during social isolation.

The comedian and actor did an Instagram Live with his fans last night and told his followers: "I want to do something for people stuck at home, self-isolating and all that. I know it can be depressing... I wanted to boost morale really, that's sort of my job. But I didn't know how.

"People keep asking me to bring After Life forward - but I can't do that. It's not up to me and they still have to translate it into all the different languages.

"So, I thought... I went on Instagram Live - I've eventually worked out how to do that, I was like your granddad on Skype."

He went on to offer to 'do this once a day, if you like'. What a nice fella.

And, after sharing the clip - and the offer - to Twitter, it seems that, yup, people do like, 28,000 people liked it, in fact.

Posting on Twitter he wrote: "Just did a little test with Instagram Live. I'm drunk and old but I got it to work. If people enjoyed it, I'll do one every day for all you lovely people stuck at home. Stay safe. Look forward to brighter days."

The post was flooded with comments, with one person writing: "Isolation is now completely feasible due to Ricky Gervais's Instagram Live videos. We are all going to be fine."

Another wrote: "I would be very happy to have a Ricky Gervais video every day to cheer us up. Thanks Ricky!"

While a third chipped in: "Awesome, we need your humour at this crazy time in the world! Please keep doing it, glad to be able to see it via Twitter. You are a VERY funny and talented man. We need you more than ever!"

With new government recommendations to avoid unnecessary social interactions, stay away from pubs, clubs and restaurants as well as working from home where possible, many people have found themselves stuck inside.

Ricky isn't the only celebrity using social media to boost fan's spirits, Coldplay's Chris Martin and singer John Legend also took to Instagram Live to shared 'free concerts' from their living rooms. Ah, you guys!
