Shaun Ryder has revealed that former bandmate Bez once turned down an offer from Julia Roberts to go to her place.

Ryder, 58, appeared on This Morning where he disclosed the golden nugget of information to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

The Happy Mondays star remembered the encounter from the 90s (which might surprise some people) and explained how it took place in a famous club called The Viper Room which is located in Los Angeles.

The pair split from each other and, when they were reunited, Shaun claims that Bez told him: "You heard of Julia Roberts? She's just asked me to go to her place."

You might be wondering what on Earth he was still doing in the establishment given that he'd just had the offer of a lifetime but it turns out Bez had other offers and also wasn't too sure who Julia was... let that sink in for a second.

Julia Roberts starred in Pretty Woman with Richard Gere.

Explaining the situation he found himself in, Shaun said: "When we went to LA, the movie Pretty Woman had only just come out so she wasn't the Julia Roberts who everyone knows now.

"We was in The Viper Rooms and Bez came over 'you heard of Julia Joggerts?' 'Yeah, Julia Roberts, yeah', 'Ah, she's just asked me to go to her place'."

Shaun went on to tell the ITV hosts: "And he didn't have a clue who she was, but she sent her bodyguard over, Evil. Her bodyguard's name was something like Evil."

He added that Bez 'had about four other girls on the go in the club anyway'.

In understandable disbelief, Holly asked Shaun: "So he turned down Julia Roberts?" He replied by raising his eyebrows and nodding.

When asked how Bez feels about it now, Ryder added: "It's Bez innit, he wasn't really bothered." You say it how it is, Shaun.

This isn't the first time Ryder has spoken about his pals' rejection as he also told the story in an interview with XFM back in 2011.

Adding more context, he said: "When we got in the Viper she made pretty much a beeline for him. She had this bodyguard called Evil who Bez was more interested in.

""Who's Julia Roberts?" Bez asked. She invited him back to her place but I think he went for a drink with Evil."

The story also appears in Ryder's autobiography Twisting My Melon. It's almost as if he likes telling it...
