Singer Sia has apologised after seemingly mistaking a photo of Nicki Minaj for rapper Cardi B.

The 44-year-old said she was left feeling like a 'buffoon' as fans quickly pointed out her mistake.

Sia was sent a picture of Nicki Minaj (picture), but she though it was Cardi B.

The confusion happened after someone tweeted Sia a photo of Minaj asking if she would ever do a song with her.

In response, Sia wrote: "I love @iamcardib and although this isn't a collaboration, I would love collab with her one day."

It wasn't long before the error was spotted and caused a bit of a backlash with one fan tweeting: "Girl move that hair out yo face AND LOOK." While another said: "Sia girl you need to delete I'm not playing."

Shortly after #Siaisoverparty started to trend.

According to People, Sia then posted several tweets which have since been deleted in which she seemingly thought the responses she'd received were blaming her for starting a feud between Minaj and Cardi B (who already have a fairly fractured relationship).

The outlet reports that Sia tweeted: "Hey @iamcardib @NICKIMINAJ you aren't thinking about a feud right now are you? We are focused on the problem of systemic racism."

Another tweet that has also since been deleted, read: "I don't give a s*** about feuds, George Floyd was f***ing murdered. Breonna Taylor. Murdered. Come on let's rise in unity.

"You think @iamcardib and Nikki [sic] are so petty that they would want you focusing on a silly feud instead of REAL NEWS."

Sia then posted an apology after seemingly realising her mistake, saying she had 'misunderstood'.

In a post she wrote: "I totally misunderstood a tweet earlier that has resulted in me making a buffoon out of myself. Sorry @NICKIMINAJ and @iamcardib if you hear about it. Can I just like you both?"

But not everyone is happy with the apology, with one person replying to the tweet: "Don't try to police black women ever again; I don't care if they were fighting it tooth and nail. It will never be your place as a white person."

While a second, much more blunt, follower said: "Sia sweetie... shut up."

Neither Minaj or Cardi have responded to the various tweets the Aussie singer posted.
