Ayo Edebiri praised for response after interviewer excludes her from interview

Ayo Edebiri has been praised for her response after a reporter very bizarrely excluded her from an interview.

The Bear star joined Andrew Garfield and Julia Roberts during a recent press event in Venice for their upcoming film, After The Hunt.

But with the interviewer given the chance to talk to the three stars, the actor was just as baffled as social media users when she was deliberately left out of a question.

Following the movie's launch at the Venice Film Festival, it has been said that the film has been met with some controversy, as some viewers were said to have left questioning the morals.

Directed by Challenger's Luca Guadagnino, the film follows a Yale University student (Maggie, played by Edebiri) who accuses a professor (Garfield) of rape, with another college professor (Roberts) caught in the middle of a personal and professional struggle.

However, when asking about what was supposedly ‘lost during the politically correct era’, a reporter decided to leave out Edebiri.

They asked what we ‘have to expect in Hollywood after the MeToo movement and the Black Lives Matter are done’, adding that it was for the ‘two of you’.

Looking rather uncomfortable, Garfield turned to his co-stars and laughed as the three seemed baffled. Roberts then prompted her to repeat the question as she said: “With your sunglasses on, I can’t tell which of us you’re talking to.”

But the reporter clarified that the question was only for her and Garfield. And stunned by the fact that she had been deliberately excluded, Edebiri wasn’t letting her get away with it – rightly so.

“I know that that’s not for me, and I don’t know if it’s purposeful if it’s not for me,” the star said. “I just am curious – I don’t think it’s done, I don’t think it’s done at all.

“Hashtags might not be used as much but I do think that there’s work being done by activists, by people every day that’s beautiful, important work. That’s not finished, that’s really, really active for a reason because this world’s really charged. And that work isn’t finished at all.”

As her co-stars shared their agreement, Edebiri continued: “Maybe if there’s not mainstream coverage in the way that there might have been, daily headlines in the way that it might have been eight or so years ago, but I don’t think it means that the work is done. That’s what I would say.”

Garfield then added that the ‘movements are still absolutely alive’.

And fans online praised Edebiri for her response to the question as they were furious she had been left out in the first place.

“After being deliberately excluded, Ayo Edebiri answering a question about the political state of the hashtag ‘metoo’ and ‘black lives matter’ movement with poise and grace for After the Hunt press in Venice,” one shared.

“Ayo handled that skilfully,” another echoed, as a third called the whole thing ‘so bizarre’.

A fourth added: “Exclusion? Didn’t shop her shine one bit.”
