Brad Pitt breaks silence about high profile divorce with Angelina Jolie after eight-year legal battle

Pitt made a rare comment about the pair's divorce after the couple finally reached a settlement

Brad Pitt has broken his silence about his high-profile divorce from Angelina Jolie, speaking out for the first time on their eight-year legal battle.

This comes as Pitt begins a press tour for his newest film F1, a £300 million new action film he stars in alongside Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem.

Pitt has remained tight-lipped about his divorce with fellow movie star Jolie since she filed for divorce in 2016, with this becoming legally settled in December of 2024.

Rumours and speculation around their high-profile split has been rife, coming after Jolie, 49, accused Pitt of 'abusive behaviour’ towards her and their children on a private plane to France in 2016.

According to court documents, Jolie alleged Pitt attacked her and assaulted one of their children on the flight. Pitt has denied all allegations made against him.

At the time, the FBI investigated Jolie's claims and the decision was made not to charge Pitt with anything.

Months on from reaching a divorce settlement after nearly a decade, Pitt has spoken out about the split for the first time in an interview with GQ magazine.

The F1 star was asked whether anything felt different in his personal life now the divorce was finalised, with Pitt replying: “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing.

“Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”

Speaking about his personal life more generally, Pitt said that his ‘personal life is always in the news’.

He added: “It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way.”

Pitt called the attention on his personal life ‘an annoyance’, with his previous marriage and split from Jennifer Aniston being similarly well-covered.

"So, it’s always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that, I don’t know. I don’t know. Mostly I feel pretty…. My life is fairly contained," he continued.

"It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it’s like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”

Jolie and Pitt ended up reaching a divorce settlement on the final day of 2024, bringing to an end nearly a decade-long legal battle between the pair.
