Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy broke down in tears while discussing the late One Direction singer during a new TV interview with Lorraine.

Payne died in October last year after falling three floors from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He had travelled to city alongside girlfriend Cassidy to attend a performance from his former bandmate Niall Horan in the city alongside Cassidy, with the 25-year-old influencer flying back to the US just days before Payne's death.

Cassidy has now given a new interview about her time with the singer, speaking as part of TV host Lorraine Kelly's March4March campaign, which focuses on raising awareness around mental health.

Explaining one of the reasons she became involved in the campaign, Cassidy said: "That's the first thing I noticed when I read into the campaign - the number four. It's me and Liam's angel number.

"I see it so often and it's going to be involved in my life forever."

Cassidy had previously included the number '444' in her initial tribute to the singer.

The couple had been in a relationship for two years prior to the One Direction star's death, with previously Cassidy revealing a note from Payne which stated they were planning to get married in the future.

Cassidy also opened up on how she'd been struggling to cope with grief in the weeks and months following Payne's death, adding: "It is really hard. I've never lost anyone close to me before so this is my first time going through this grief and healing journey.

"He has impacted so many people in this world and I know I'm not alone in this, so many other people are grieving. It shows how much of an impact he had on people's lives."

She continued: "He would light up any room he walked into and he had this sense of humour where he could make anything better and his presence was just comforting and warming and that is something I will never forget about him, ever."
