Dick & Dom star shocks fans with very different career 18 years after hit children’s show

Former TV presenter Dominic Wood now has a very different career

Former Dick & Dom presenter Dominic Wood has left his TV career behind after starring in the BAFTA-Award-winning children’s show.

Wood, 47, is best known for co-presenting Dick & Dom in da Bungalow alongside Richard ‘Dick’ McCourt for five seasons, from 2002 to 2006.

Fans will remember the show for challenging kids to various games with the hopes of winning consoles and TVs as prizes, as well as less lucrative rewards like a bottle of water or a kettle.

Although the pair went on to present Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom in 2013, Wood has barely appeared on TV.

Nowadays, the Devon man is sharing videos on his social media pages with 270,000 followers on TikTok and 220,000 on Instagram, under the handle @the+houseofwood.

His content is all based around a home renovation project he's been working on for the past four years with his wife and pop star Sandi.

The pair purchased a 1930s home in Surrey and have been doing it up ever since.

Though it was the pandemic which kickstarted their renovation journey after they were unable to hire tradesmen during lockdown.

After deciding to carry out the jobs himself, the former presenter has now shared over 200 videos of him redecorating the property.

In the clips he is seen doing various DIY such as repainting, re-carpeting and gardening.

"As you know we moved in during lockdown one so we were lucky enough to get any carpet," he wrote in a caption from one of his videos.

"A runner wasn’t an option though as everywhere was shut! Over two days I’ve worked really hard stripping back the stairs, sanding, filling, punching in nails and painting. Hard and VERY messy work!!!!"

In a 2023 interview with House Beautiful, Wood opened up about his best DIY advice, which is to 'measure twice, cut once'.

"Once you’ve made that cut you can’t go back, so if you’ve got the wrong measurements you’re going to end up in a whole heap of trouble," he said.

"I also think it’s really important to focus on the unrewarding jobs that you don’t see or get instant gratification from, but need to be done, otherwise you will get much bigger problems further down the line.

"For example, we recently had to repair our gutters because the downpipe was causing water to go into the brickwork which was creating damp and mould in the wall.

"The problem is, if you’ve got cash saved away you’d rather have a new sofa, wouldn’t you? But there’s no point having a new sofa if you’ve got bubbly walls with mould."
